About GenSol

GenSol was founded in 2008 to address the growing need for canine genetic screening and the everyday application of increasingly complex biological assays using state-of-the-art technology.

Our Story

I created GenSol Animal Diagnostics after my wife Adriana and I discovered that Dexter, our Australian Cattle Dog, tested “affected” for PRA-PRCD, a genetic eye disorder. We realized that dog genetic testing lacked an option that was fast, accurate, and affordable. It made no sense to wait weeks for hundreds of results, most of which were irrelevant. So, using state-of-the-art technology, I developed a new option focused exclusively on providing only the tests you need in a time frame that made sense.

We are now excited to introduce the first ever fully customizable panels to make pet genetic testing even more affordable!

Our Mission

To contribute to pet health, by making pet DNA testing broadly accessible by offering breeders, veterinarians, and pet parents who make breeding or health decisions fast, accurate, and affordable tests.

Find a BreedFind a Test

Fast

Results in 48 hours from dog genetic testing samples arrival at the lab.

Accurate

State-of-the-art technology, highly automated processes together with a tight tracking system virtually eliminate risks for contamination and human error.

Affordable

Some (if not the) lowest prices for pet genetic testing in the industry for a single test and now for the first-ever customizable panels.

GenSol Leads the pack

When faced with breeding or health decisions, waiting weeks for the results of pet genetic tests is not an option, nor is paying through the nose for unnecessary tests. The philosophy I implemented at GenSol is Fast – Accurate – Affordable.

Our Experience

GenSol Animal Diagnostics was founded in 2008 by Dr. Micah D. Halpern. Dr. Halpern has spent over 25 years applying the tools of molecular diagnostics for a wide array of applications in a number of fields of study. He possesses a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences, an M.S. in Industrial Chemistry with a focus on Forensic DNA Analysis from the University of Central Florida, and a B.S. in Biology from the Florida Institute of Technology.

Prior to establishing GenSol, Dr. Halpern worked as a Senior Scientist at Midwest Research Institute (MRI) in both Palm Bay, Florida, and Kansas City, Missouri. There, he managed projects in areas ranging from forensic science to pathogen detection, which included serving as Principal Investigator on a grant funded by the National Institute of Justice. Before working with MRI, he served as a laboratory researcher at the Brookfield Zoo Conservation Genetics Laboratory in Brookfield, Illinois studying the genetic diversity of wild and captive animal populations.

Dr. Halpern has co-authored peer-reviewed journal articles in research areas ranging from forensic science to microbiology to conservation biology. He has published viral genome sequences and has multiple pending patents. He has also served as a reviewer for a number of scientific journals and as a peer reviewer for national grant funding agencies.
